Summertime is inspired by an old black-and-white photograph titled Coin de plage (Beach Corner). The costumes, especially the sun hats, belong to another era, but the scene itself is timeless: children enjoying the pleasures of summer without a care in the world. The rock on the Grande Plage is aptly named Le Rocher des Enfants (Children’s Rock). Anaïs Zhang’s colorful interpretation shows it bathed in the glorious light of the summer sun.
This work belongs to the Timeless series, dedicated to the visual memory of Biarritz, drawing on photographic archives and historical illustrations reinterpreted through painting and digital media. Anaïs Zhang brings forth landscapes and scenes that have shaped the identity of a city, in a dialogue between past and present, where color acts as a transformative force, revealing a collective memory.

Biography
Anaïs zhang
Based in Biarritz, Anaïs Zhang is a Chinese-born French artist with a Master’s degree in Oil Painting from the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts. Rooted in color-rich, modern painting, her work weaves a dialogue between past and future, East and West, memory and imagination, and has recently been exhibited at the Grand Palais in Paris.
