Anaïs Zhang is a Chinese-born French artist based in Biarritz. She holds a Master’s degree in Oil Painting from the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts (GAFA), where her work was selected for a national exhibition upon graduation, marking her first institutional recognition.

Following her academic training, she developed a distinctive path shaped by a deep engagement with the art world. She ran her own gallery in Macau from 2001 to 2009, before co-founding a communication agency in China, where she served as Artistic Director until 2017. Throughout this period, she continued her personal painting practice, nourished by her travels and a growing exploration of visual storytelling and cultural narratives.

Since 2018, Anaïs Zhang has devoted herself entirely to her artistic practice, developing a body of work centered on the expressive power of color. Her paintings explore a dialogue between past and future, East and West, memory and imagination.

Her work unfolds through several series. Le Poème de la Mer captures contemporary coastal life in Biarritz through figures absorbed in the contemplation of the ocean, while Timeless revisits historical imagery and urban memory through reinterpretation and color. In La Belle Époque, she brings new life to early 20th-century photographic archives, transforming forgotten moments into vibrant, contemporary compositions.

In parallel, Anaïs Zhang has developed Heroji, a multidisciplinary digital project inspired by mythological figures as guardians of nature. Drawing from both ancestral symbolism and contemporary visual culture, this body of work extends her artistic language beyond painting into the digital realm.

Her work has been exhibited in China, France, and the United States, and was recently presented at the Grand Palais in Paris. She currently lives and works in Biarritz.
